Do electric cars need oil changes?
No. Since electric vehicles are powered by an electric motor vs. an engine, oil changes are not required on EVs. Hybrid vehicles, however, do require oil changes and often have similar service intervals when compared to their gas counterparts.
Does it cost more to maintain a hybrid car or electric vehicle?
Not usually. With fewer moving parts and fluids, EV service costs are generally lower in comparison to gas service prices. A from June 2021 outlines that the estimated scheduled maintenance cost of a light-duty battery-electric vehicle is less than $0.07 per mile. Meanwhile, a standard internal combustion engine costs approximately $0.10 per mile to maintain.
